4 Cold Brew Mocktails to Try at Home

Everybody loves a good mocktail. The unique flavor combinations taste great and make it even easier to relax at home. One of the biggest trends at local coffee shops worldwide right now is cold brew mocktails.

You can’t really have a boozy cocktail in the morning before or during work (or at least you shouldn’t). But sometimes, you just crave the complex taste of a cocktail. Cold brew mocktails offer a delicious (and caffeinated) solution.

So today, we’re going to walk through some delicious cold brew mocktails that you need to try at home. Once you try these amazing drinks, you’ll have a hard time going back to regular ol’ black coffee.

What Are Mocktails?

The word "mocktail" is a fusion of two words: "mock" and "cocktail." Mocktails are non-alcoholic versions of the cocktails we love, offering a fresh twist.

Why Drink a Cold Brew Mocktail?

There are plenty of reasons why people might choose to drink a mocktail. First, they’re delicious and fun. It’s exciting to try new twists on drinks you already enjoy.

Second, as we mentioned, mocktails let you savor those complex flavors in the morning without any guilt. Since they’re non-alcoholic, you don’t have to worry about their effects. If you use caffeinated coffee, your only concern will be staying up a little longer than planned.

Finally, mocktails allow you to enjoy the social aspect of cocktails without consuming alcohol. Many people avoid alcohol for personal reasons. A mocktail lets you participate in social gatherings without feeling awkward about not having a drink in your hand.

What Do I Need to Make Mocktails?

To make amazing mocktails at home, you’ll need a few essentials. First, gather cocktail tools: a cocktail shaker, strainer, bar spoon, jigger, and mixing glass.

Next, stock up on ingredients and mixers. Citrus, simple syrup, soda water, tonic, and ginger beer are must-haves. Plan ahead and get the ingredients you need for your chosen recipe.

Finally, you’ll need Javvy coffee concentrate. This will serve as the base for all the mocktails we’ll be making. It replaces liquor with rich coffee flavor and caffeine.

Javvy is a specific type of cold brew called cold brew concentrate. It’s made by mixing coffee and water at a 1:1 ratio and letting it sit for upwards of twelve hours. The result is a coffee concentrate similar in strength to espresso, with plenty of bold flavor to enhance these drinks.

Mocktail Recipes You Need to Try

Now, let’s get to the good stuff! Here are four different mocktail recipes to try at home.

1. Cold Brew Old Fashioned

This unique twist on an Old Fashioned is smooth and rich, just like the original, but can be enjoyed during breakfast or any time you need a pick-me-up.

Ingredients:

  • ½ ounce to 1 ounce Javvy coffee concentrate
  • 2 ounces water
  • 3 dashes orange bitters
  • ¼ ounce simple syrup (or maple syrup for a fun flavor twist)
  • 1 orange peel
  • Instructions:

  • Grab your mixing glass and bar spoon. Pour in the Javvy and water, then mix to create a strong but well-diluted cold brew base.
  • Add the orange bitters and simple syrup. Stir for about 10-15 seconds or until chilled.
  • Place a large ice cube in a lowball glass and strain the cocktail over the ice.
  • Express the orange peel over the drink and use it as a garnish. Enjoy!
  • Start with ½ ounce of Javvy, and if you want a stronger flavor, increase it to a full ounce. Adjust the sweetness to taste.

    2. Cold Brew Dark and Stormy

A Dark and Stormy is a classic cocktail made with rum and ginger beer. In this recipe, the rum is swapped for delicious cold brew.

    Ingredients:

  • ½ ounce Javvy
  • 2 ounces water
  • 4 ounces ginger beer
  • 1 lime wedge
  • ½ ounce brown sugar simple syrup
  • Instructions:

  • Use a stirring glass, not a shaker, to avoid making a mess with the fizzy ginger beer.
  • Add the Javvy and water, stirring to create your cold brew base.
  • Mix in the brown sugar simple syrup. (To make brown sugar simple syrup, mix equal parts brown sugar and hot water, stirring until dissolved.)
  • Stir with ice to chill, then pour into a serving glass filled with ice.
  • Top with ginger beer and garnish with a lime wedge.
  • The rich coffee and spicy ginger beer create a unique, flavorful experience, balanced by the brown sugar's sweetness and the lime's citrusy brightness.

    3. Coffee Tonic

This short, simple mocktail is reminiscent of the classic gin and tonic, but with a coffee twist.

    Ingredients:

  • ½ ounce Javvy
  • 2 ounces water
  • 4 ounces tonic water
  • 1 orange or lime wedge
  • ¼ ounce brown sugar simple syrup
  • Instructions:

  • In a serving glass, mix the Javvy, water, and brown sugar simple syrup.
  • Add ice and pour tonic water over the top.
  • Garnish with an orange or lime wedge—whichever you prefer. Lime adds a crisp brightness, while orange complements the coffee flavor.
  • 4. Virgin Espresso Martini

The espresso martini is a classic dessert cocktail. Our version skips the vodka and adds a bit of milk for extra creaminess.

    Ingredients:

  • ½ ounce Javvy
  • 2 ounces water
  • ¼ ounce vanilla syrup
  • 2 ounces milk or milk substitute
  • Instructions:

  • In a shaker, combine the Javvy, water, vanilla syrup, and milk with ice. Shake well until chilled (you’ll know it’s ready when the shaker is too cold to touch).
  • Strain into a martini or coupe glass, ensuring no ice makes it into the final drink.
  • Garnish with three coffee beans placed neatly in the center of the foam.
  • This drink is super creamy and delicious, with a hint of vanilla. It’s like a fancy vanilla latte—what’s not to love?
